Province invests $4.9 million in north


Boat launch refurbishments are amongst two dozen tourism-related tasks getting a $4.9 million increase from the province.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Company (NOHFC) funding goals to create jobs, increase enterprise operations, stimulate financial growth, and entice guests to the north, the Ministry of Northern Growth said on Nov. 22, 2022.

The funding contains $110,520 for the Native Providers Board of Lac St-Thérèse to refurbish a dock and boat launch, and $76,845 for the Township of The North Shore to rehabilitate its causeway and refurbish two boat launch services.

Potential ‘limitless’

“Northern Ontario is an extremely scenic area, with limitless potential for tourism,” Minister Greg Rickford said. “These investments will assist northern tourism operations increase their choices, create jobs and promote regional prosperity, whereas showcasing this lovely a part of Ontario to guests from throughout the province and world wide.”

Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested greater than $575 million in 4,835 tasks in northern Ontario, leveraging greater than $1.86 billion in funding and creating or sustaining greater than 7,770 jobs, officers said.
